Capital conference accepting entrants

Gathering to give insights on workings of federal government

WASHINGTON, D.C. – One hundred Coloradans will be selected to attend the 2015 Colorado Capital Conference in Washington, D.C.

The conference, from June 3-5, is designed to provide Colorado residents with insights into how the U.S. government works and an understanding of the federal legislative process. Participants also will get to interact with members of Congress and the president’s Cabinet.

The news was announced earlier this week by Colorado Mesa University, University of Colorado and Sens. Cory Gardner and Michael Bennet.

“Without an informed public, representative democracy does not work,” Gardner said. “Events like the Colorado Capital Conference are an essential part of creating that informed public, and I’m grateful to Colorado Mesa University and the University of Colorado for organizing this gathering. This conference gives Coloradans an opportunity to interact with and learn from academics, business leaders and policymakers, and, more importantly, gives those of us in public life a chance to hear and learn from Coloradans.”

Bennet described the conference as an “excellent opportunity” to connect with leaders who make Colorado “a great place to live and work.”

“Events like these allow us to listen to the voices we represent and learn more about what’s most important to them. After all, the best ideas for Colorado don’t come from Washington, D.C. They come from Coloradans,” Bennet said. “We are grateful to Colorado Mesa University, the University of Colorado and Sen. Cory Gardner for helping to arrange this conference.”

Those who wish to apply for a chance to attend can do so on Colorado Mesa University’s website.
