A 2014 Winter Bike to Work Day rider cruises down Main Avenue. This year’s will be held Friday.

Get those chains lubed and those tubes inflated: The city of Durango’s fifth annual Winter Bike to Work Day is coming Friday.

The city’s multimodal division is encouraging residents to ride, walk, carpool or bus on Friday and, along the way, to stop for a celebration of sustainable transportation.

The celebration will take place from 7 to 9 a.m. in front of Durango Coffee Co., 730 Main Ave.

In a news release, the city said there will be breakfast snacks from Bread, coffee and tea from Durango Coffee Co., a free micro-bike tune from San Juan Cycles and a presence from Trails 2000. Also, the city will offer free bike registration, discounted bus passes and raffle prizes, including Osprey products.

In the summer, the city has hosted a Clean Commute Week since 2010. Summer will also include a bike to work day.
