Silverton Snowmobile Club to host racing days

This weekend’s races at Molas Lake Park are held by the Silverton Snowmobile Club.

The Silverton Snowmobile Club will be hosting a radar race and snowmobile drag racing at Molas Lake Park on Saturday and Sunday.

Club President Jim Lokey said they will be having timed radar runs all day long, with single snowmobiles being timed. The racing is a benefit for the club.

Lokey pointed out that the club gets about $27,000 a year from Colorado Parks and Wildlife to groom snowmobile trails for multiple use.

But he said the club really needs about $30,000 to make sure the Silverton and Molas trails are open.

In all, the club maintains 104 miles of trails.

“This is a big fundraiser for the club,” Lokey said.

On Saturday, the Radar Detector Run sign-up is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., with the run starting at 11 a.m. On Sunday, the Drag Races sign-up is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., with racing starting at 11 a.m.
