Very honorable mention for DHS grad

Durango High School graduate Taylor Graham, son of Susan and Scott Graham, is a Park Scholar studying at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.

If you’re a fan of New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, you may have read about “Taylor Graham of Ithaca College” in the last paragraph of his Thursday story.

Yep, that’s our Taylor Graham, 2012 Durango High School graduate who is a Park Scholar – a status that includes a full-ride scholarship for communications majors.

And yes, the mention is a really good thing in this case. But it was close to being even better.

Graham was one of four finalists, among 450 applicants, for the grand prize in Kristof’s annual win-a-trip contest. Kristof takes the winner on some sort of journalistic adventure.

This year’s winner, Stanford graduate student Austin Meyer, will probably get to go to India and Bangladesh, although Congo is a possibility, Kristof said in the column.

Graham, the son of Susan and Scott Graham of Durango, is a junior majoring in emerging media at Ithaca, located in Ithaca, New York. Right now, he is studying Indian culture and Hindi in Jaipur, India. In April he will head to Sikkim, a semiautonomous kingdom in the Himalayas, where he will film and produce a documentary on the cultural, societal and environmental problems associated with proposed hydroelectric projects there, Scott Graham said in an email.
