Gunshot victim assumed at St. Anthony

Woman ‘critical’ when she arrived

A Bayfield-area woman who suffered a gunshot wound to the head apparently remains Monday in St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood.

Stacy Pazell was in critical and stable condition when she arrived at St. Anthony from Mercy Regional Medical Center. The incident occurred about 9 p.m. Saturday.

St. Anthony spokeswoman Loralee Sturm said Monday she didn’t have Pazell in her registry. But information is confidential in several circumstances, one being when law enforcement is involved, Sturm said.

The family of a patient, law enforcement or the hospital itself can request information not be released, Sturm said.

Stacy Pazell, 43, shot herself, her husband, David Pazell, 45, told investigators. La Plata County sheriff’s deputies and Upper Pine Fire Protection District personnel found the Pazells near a black 2006 Ford Explorer near county roads 501 and 502 on Saturday evening north of Bayfield.

The sheriff’s office had responded to a 911 call from an individual who had been flagged down by David Pazell, 45.

A handgun was found near the victim, the sheriff’s office said. David Pazell told an investigator that the couple had been at the Lake House Bar & Grill, 17460 County Road 501, for a pool tournament.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office has no new information, spokesman Dan Bender said Monday.

Anyone who has interacted with the Pazells or has information about the incident is asked to call investigator Brandon Dyer at 382-7054.
