Durango swimmer Anne Mummery gains experience at USA Swimming sectionals

Rest of DSC closes season at Age Group Circuit meet
Anne Mummery competed in the biggest swim meet of her life March 26-29 in Austin, Texas. Durango Swim Club coach Suzanne Schieltz said it will propel her into college swimming.

Her first sectional meet taught Durango Swim Club athlete Anne Mummery a lot.

Mummery swam from March 26-29 in Austin, Texas against athletes from Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.

She qualified for the 100-yard backstroke, an event that she holds the Durango High School record in, and took 44th place in 58.93 seconds.

Mummery also time-trialed several other events that she was unable to qualify for.

She dropped three seconds off of her 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:07.81.

Mummery also set her personal best time in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.18 seconds.

Her next sectional meet will be over the summer in Mt. Hood, Oregon.

“Anne is a trooper; she has a great work ethic and has come out on top. She works through injury and sickness to succeed,” DSC head coach Suzanne Schieltz said in an email to The Durango Herald. “It’s been an incredible year of success for her, which will take her to the next level – swimming in college.”
