Of wives and women

The lives and deaths of Henry VIII’s six wives are woven together with the stories of seven contemporary women in an ambitious new production by 20 Moons.

“Wearing Through: Unraveling the Tapestry of the Betrothed” explores the theme of survival in the moment and across generations by mixing historical and personal stories in a stage show that combines movement, live music and visual art.

Guest director Suzy DiSanto collaborated with the dance company to create the original work, said Jessica Perino, artistic director for 20 Moons.

Seven dancers will perform to a live score by a four-person band led by musical director Jeroen van Tyn. The band will play new arrangements of compositions by Ralph Towner, Pat Metheny and others. “It’s a very musical experience,” Perino said.

Wearable-art sculpture by visual artist Minna Jain will help the performers tell their stories of transformation, which will play out on a multi-level stage in the McPherson Chapel at Fort Lewis College.
