Two drivers injured on Main Avenue

Collision blocks traffic at 19th Street
Durango Fire Protection District first responders prepare to transport at least one victim from a two-vehicle accident on Main Avenue at 19th Street shortly before 8 a.m. Monday. The wreck forced northbound traffic on Main Avenue to be diverted.

A two-vehicle rear-ender accident at Main Avenue and 19th Street closed northbound traffic on Main Avenue just before at 7:50 a.m. Monday.

Both drivers, women with no passengers, were transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center. There was no further information on injuries or condition.

Northbound traffic on Main Avenue was diverted at 18th Street.

Durango police Sgt. Dave Peterson said a Nissan slowed to allow pedestrians to cross. It was rear-ended by a GMC Yukon, which tried to swerve to avoid the collision, but failed.

The driver of the Yukon was cited for following too closely, Peterson said.
