Bayfield girls soccer breaks away from Ridgway

Three breakaway goals wrapped up the Bayfield High School girls soccer business trip Saturday.

The Wolverines beat Ridgway 3-0 in Ridgway to cap an undefeated weekend and stretch their winning streak to four games.

BHS junior Maddy Duran opened the scoring, and she assisted on Savannah Kaufmann’s goal to make the score 2-0.

Koya Maniss wrapped up the scoring with an assist from Kaylee Gomez.

“We’ve got speed up top, so we want to feed the ball through to them,” BHS head coach Jen Zelinski said.

BHS (8-2, 8-2 Class 3A Region 5) has a busy week coming up with three games scheduled.

The Wolverines begin with Pine River rival Ignacio at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Ignacio before playing Salida at 4 p.m. Thursday and Center at 11 a.m. Friday, both in Bayfield.

“We’re just trying to take it one game at a time, and hopefully everything will pan out the way we want it to as far as going to playoffs,” Zelinski said.
