The demo days of spring are almost upon us

It sure was nice to see some more rain in the area over the past few days – and it held off long enough to get in last Saturday’s first official tournament of the season at Hillcrest Golf Club.

I saw a 7-iron propped up against the clubhouse wall on the ground level at Hillcrest on Monday, which made me think of new clubs and demo days. These popular gatherings are back at Hillcrest for the month of May, and I thought it would be fitting (no pun intended) to lay out the demo days schedule:

Ping: 9 a.m.-1 p.m., May 16

Mizuno: 9 a.m.-noon, May 22

Titleist: 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m., May 23

TaylorMade: noon-whenever, May 29

Check with the Hillcrest pro shop for more details on these showcase events.

Monday will be a busy day for lady golfers in our area, as Dalton Ranch Golf Club will host a Ladies Tune Up Clinic from 4-5 p.m. on the driving range.

The clinic, which includes a lesson, a drink and chips and salsa, costs $25.

Sign up in the pro shop if you wish to attend.

Then, the Opening Night Dinner and meeting of the Hillcrest Women’s Golf Association will be later that day, with registration and appetizers starting at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m.

Cost of the dinner is $10, and the cost to join the HWGA for 2015 is $20.

Details of the season-long Tuesday Ladies Day events and the new added format will be discussed at this time.

You can RSVP by Friday by calling 247-1499.

It’s also time to think about getting your junior golfers ready for another summer season of clinics and tournament play, as registration for the 2015 Hillcrest Junior Golf Program will be at 1 p.m. May 16.

I’ll have more details, including cost, next week.

The first Dalton Ranch Couples event will be Sunday with a field limit of 48 entrants. A shotgun start is scheduled at 1 p.m.

The Celebrity Wine and 9 Golf Tournament, to benefit the Durango Film-Independent Film Festival, will be May 16 at the Glacier Club.

This is an opportunity to play nin holes of scramble-format golf, sip some fine vintage wine, enjoy fabulous food with prizes, fun twists and more.

It costs $150 per golfer and $575 per foursome.

The Express Employment Professionals Best Ball and Scramble is scheduled May 9-10 at the Hillcrest Golf Club.

There is $500 in added prizes and a $50 entry fee per person.

You can choose your own partner with a maximum handicap spread of eight strokes, except for the championship flight.
