Lutheran church offers Family Sunday School

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2611 Junction St., will offer Family Sunday School on Sunday, Oct. 27 and Nov. 17.

Class will start at 9:15 a.m. Parents and young children are invited to attend Sunday School together. The fall theme is “God Provides.”

Documentary film to be screened today

In honor of United Nations International Day of Peace, Baha’is of the Durango and Cortez area will preview the documentary “Luminous Journey” at 7 p.m. today.

The film chronicles the travels of Abdul-Baha, son of the founder of the Bahá’í faith. In 1912, he traveled across America after a lifetime of imprisonment and religious persecution in the Middle East. He called on America to become a land of spiritual distinction and leadership and gave a powerful vision of America’s spiritual destiny.

Two area Baha’is participated in a segment of the documentary that was filmed in Durango and on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Members of the public are welcome.

Christ the King to host Peanut Butter Sunday

Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road, will celebrate Peanut Butter Sunday on Sept. 29.

Members are asked to bring jars of peanut butter that will be donated to the needy in Durango. A fellowship celebration will take place after the 8 a.m. service and the 10:30 a.m. service where the church will serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Attendees are asked to make their favorite peanut butter recipe to share. People also are invited to bring in fall vegetables from their gardens to share.

Methodist church begins sermon series

The First United Methodist Church of Durango, 2917 Aspen Drive, will start a new sermon series today and Sunday.

The series, called “Wrestling with God,” will run four weeks and focus on Jacob, the only man who ever wrestled with God and lived to tell about it.

Worship services will be held at 5:30 p.m. today and 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday. Everyone is welcome.
