The lull before the local tourney storm

When the rain began to fall in Colorado after a less-than-stellar winter, most everyone exclaimed how wonderful it was to get moisture. Now that we have had a good amount of precipitation. I am hearing, “Oh, I look forward to sunny days.” There is just no satisfying anybody anymore.

I am no forecaster, so how about a healthy dose of blistering heat – and yes, the next response will be, “Gee, I wish it would rain to cool things off.”

We can not assume the rain patterns will evenly distribute themselves to all corners of our continent – like a kid spreading peanut butter evenly over a slice of bread. Let’s be grateful we have any moisture at all and send our thoughts for recovery to all those people in Oklahoma and Texas who wish they could send most of the rain backwards to California. I am now off my soapbox!

As far as tournament play, it is all quiet on the southern tier as action will heat up again around the corner in June. We usher in the June calendar with the Hampton Inn-Yellow Ball Challenge on June 6 at Hillcrest Golf Club with a $500 added prize purse and a $35 entry fee. One-hundred percent handicaps will be used in flighted action with scoring based on net only.

Then, the following weekend, on June 13, we find the Navajo Trail Open Sponsors Tournament, which is a prelude to the NTO June 18-21, with new title sponsor First National Bank of Durango.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club will kick off it’s June calendar with the monthly Couples Tournament on June 7, followed by the Bank of the San Juans tournament on June 12 and the Columbine Classic Duet on June 17-18.

Also note that the Cleveland wedge clinic will be Friday at Dalton Ranch Golf Club from 4:30-6 p.m. If you plan to attend, please register at the pro shop by calling 247-8774. And, if you are really into improving your sticks, the TaylorMade demo day will be May 29 at Hillcrest Golf Club, starting at noon.
