Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts are Josh and Cornelia, a childless New York married couple in their mid-40s. As their other friends all start having children, the couple gravitates toward a young hipster couple named Jamie (Adam Driver) and Darby (Amanda Seyfried). He’s an aspiring documentary filmmaker, a vocation Josh already has. Soon, the older couple begins enjoying the energy they feel haging out with the younger generation, but eventually, Josh begins to suspect his new best friend might not be as straightforward and trustworthy as he thought. Rated R.

Ex Machina

Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an Internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company’s brilliant and reclusive CEO Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test – charging him with evaluating the capabilities and, ultimately, the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated – and more deceptive – than the two men could have imagined. Rated R.

Black Souls

(Wednesday only) Based on real events described in Gioacchino Criaco’s novel, Black Souls, is a tale of violence begetting violence and complex morality inherited by each generation in rural, ancient Calabria, a real-life mafia seat in southern Italy. The Carbone family consists of three brothers, Luigi (Marco Leonardi) and Rocco (Peppino Mazzotta), who are engaged in the family business of international drug trade, and Luciano (Fabrizio Ferracane), who has remained in the ancestral town of Africo in the Aspromonte mountains on the Mediterranean coast – herding goats. His 20-year-old son Leo (Giuseppe Fumo) has little respect for his farmer father but idealizes his Mafioso uncles. When Leo shoots up a bar owned by a rival family with a longstanding blood feud with the Carbones, his reckless actions create trouble that brings the whole family back to Africo for the inevitable bloody showdown. Not rated.

Far from the Madding Crowd

Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, Far From the Madding Crowd is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors; Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schonaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. Rated PG-13.

Woman in Gold

Helen Mirren stars in the story of Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee who is forced to flee Vienna during World War II. Decades later, determined to salvage some dignity from her past, Maria has taken on a mission to reclaim a painting the Nazis stole from her family: the famous “Lady In Gold,” a portrait of her beloved Aunt Adele. Partnering with an inexperienced but determined young lawyer (Ryan Reynolds), Maria embarks on an epic journey for justice 60 years in the making. Rated PG-13.

A celebrated military contractor (Bradley Cooper) returns to the site of his greatest career triumphs – the U.S. Space program in Honolulu – and reconnects with a long-ago love (Rachel McAdams) while unexpectedly falling for the hard-charging Air Force watchdog (Emma Stone) assigned to him. Rated PG-13.

San Andreas

(Also available in 3-D with surcharge) After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude-9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Dwayne Johnson) and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter. But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning. And when they think the worst may be over, it’s just getting started. Rated PG-13.

Poltergeist

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead,” “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever. Rated PG-13.

Tomorrowland

A riveting mystery adventure starring George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as Tomorrowland. What they must do there changes the world – and them – forever. Rated PG.

Mad Max: Fury Road

(Also available in 3-D with surcharge) Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows. Rated R.

Pitch Perfect 2

The Barden Bellas are back in “Pitch Perfect 2,” the follow-up to summer 2012’s smash hit. The comedy will be helmed by Elizabeth Banks, co-star and producer of “Pitch Perfect,” and produced by Paul Brooks, Max Handelman and Banks. Writer Kay Cannon returns to the team to pen the next chapter. Rated PG-13.

Hot Pursuit

An uptight and by-the-book cop (Reese Witherspoon) tries to protect the sexy and outgoing widow (Sofia Vergara) of a drug boss as they race through Texas, pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen. Rated PG-13.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The epic follow-up to the biggest super hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s mightiest heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon, uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Rated PG-13.

When Earth is taken over by the overly-confident Boov, an alien race in search of a new place to call home, all humans are promptly relocated, while all Boov get busy reorganizing the planet. But when one resourceful girl, Tip (Rihanna), manages to avoid capture, she finds herself the accidental accomplice of a banished Boov named Oh (Jim Parsons). The two fugitives realize there’s a lot more at stake than intergalactic relations as they embark on the road trip of a lifetime. Rated PG.
