Naisbitt key to a second chance for PSC

It seems that the editorial regarding the Powerhouse closure (Herald, May 24) was based on the implausible assumption that there were other alternatives.

If there had been other options, I’m sure the Powerhouse Science Center (PSC) board would have chosen them before making this last-resort decision.

I also was surprised by the editorial’s descriptive terms of “abruptness” and “impulsive” when it was “neither a secret nor a surprise that the museum’s financial situation was not particularly rosy.” An organization only can go so far in a reoccurring pattern of financial challenge.

Perhaps the feeling of abruptness stemmed from a lack of open discussions regarding its ongoing challenges. I applaud Nana Naisbitt for her focus, decisiveness and honesty. Without her, a second chance for the PSC would be unlikely. She is opening the channels of communication with the community.

Naisbitt offers us the opportunity to break old patterns and rebuild a better organization that not only better serves the community but also is financially sustainable. She is open to ideas, thoughts and support, even if it’s as simple as helping pull weeds in the front courtyard in preparation for summer-event rentals. I admire her dedication during a tough time.
