Longing for Snowdown?

These images compiled by Snowdown organizers are designed to start getting locals in the mood for the 1980s-themed festivities starting Jan. 27, 2016.

It’s the official start of summer, and most Durangoans are thinking about golf, picnics and lazing in the hammock. But for the organizers of Snowdown, who start working on the next year shortly after finishing one year’s zaniness, it’s time to start priming the pump for Snowdown 2016: ’80s style.

Pulling public-domain photos from the Internet, they are hoping to trigger some 1980s inspiration with items such as the Rubik’s Cube, “E.T.,” “Dynasty,” “Oliver North” and the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

If you require more than a few photos to put you in the mood, several of the movies in the Animas City Theatre’s “Quote Along, Drink Along” series this summer hail from the era. At 7 and 10 p.m. Tuesday, “Ghostbusters” is showing, with “Dirty Dancing” and “Blazing Saddles” still to come.

The official Snowdown poster-unveiling will be at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Lost Dog Bar & Lounge.
