Roberts is not a one-issue candidate

So-called women’s groups that falsely claim to speak for all women have viciously attacked State Sen. Ellen Roberts. Well, they don’t speak for me. Sen. Roberts is a common-sense, thoughtful, elected leader who has been pro-choice her whole career.

The politics of personal destruction from these groups say more about them than it does about Sen. Roberts.

As a state House representative and now president pro tem of the state Senate, she has worked on numerous bills to enhance the lives of women all across Colorado. Still, ProgressNow Colorado calls Ellen “wishy-washy on women’s health” because she doesn’t fall lockstep with progressive-left women’s groups that believe abortion and birth control are the only issues relevant to women.

Sen. Roberts deserves to be thanked for her thoughtful leadership and service to all women and men in Colorado. She’s not a one-issue candidate, and from my perspective, that’s refreshing.

She has said she won’t seek the Republican nomination to challenge Sen. Michael Bennet in 2016, but fortunately, all of Colorado still will be well-served with Ellen Roberts in the state Senate.
