Rockslide leads to local train delays

A rockslide four miles from Silverton delayed the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad trains on Friday.

After a rockslide across the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad tracks Friday, crews worked into the night and into Saturday to make sure the July Fourth trains ran on time.

The rockslide happened about four miles from Silverton between two trains. The trains were delayed, and passengers were bussed back to Durango on Friday night.

It was the second rockslide of the year along the tracks.

“The whole area is prone to rockslides,” said Christain Robbins, spokesman for D&SNG.
