Durango High School graduate Lauren Milliet started her third consecutive game at the World University games, a 2-0 loss to Canada on Sunday night in Boseong, South Korea.

Heather Marie Lund scored both goals for unbeaten Canada, one in the 65th minute and a header in the 72nd.

Milliet’s Colorado College team, representing the United States, outshot the Canadians 8-7 and held the majority of the possession.

“It was the best game we have played from a soccer standpoint, in terms of playing the game the right way,” Colorado College assistant coach Robin Grossman said in a news release. “Unfortunately, we had a few calls go against us that changed the game, but the bottom line is that we need to do a better job of finishing our chances.

“Overall, we are excited about what we can do moving forward. We still have the opportunity to pick up more wins wearing the USA jersey. We have all the confidence in the world that our team will respond with a great performance.”

The Tigers earned eight corners in the match, seven of them in the first half.

Milliet did not get a shot off and was substituted in the 71st minute.

Canada won Pool D with a 3-0 record and three clean sheets.

Team USA dropped to 1-2 with the loss and finished third in Pool D.

They will play Ireland on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the medal bracket.
