Power restored to 4,110 LPEA customers

‘Pesky’ raccoon’s damage repaired

A raccoon that climbed onto a transformer in the Piedra substation in Archuleta County knocked out power to 4,110 La Plata Electric Association customers early Tuesday morning.

“The damage done by the pesky raccoon has been repaired, and all are back in power,” LPEA spokeswoman Indiana Reed said in a news release about 8:30 a.m.

The outage occurred about 3:15 a.m.

LPEA restored power to all but 990 customers as of 6:45 a.m., according to a news release. They had repaired three of the four circuits affected at that time.

Reed asked co-op customers to update their telephone numbers at 247-5786 to receive an efficient response when calling in an outage. LPEA also posts outage information on a regular basis to its Twitter account, @LaPlataElectric.
