Lauren Milliet and the Colorado College women’s soccer team representing the United States at the World University Games picked up their second win of the tournament Tuesday night.

The Tigers defeated Ireland 1-0 in the first game of the medal rounds. The game was played at the Mokpo Football Center in Gwangju, South Korea.

Milliet, a 2015 graduate of Durango High School, started the game, just as she has all four games so far.

She was substituted in the 59th minute. She had one shot and put it on goal. She also committed two fouls.

Sarah Schweiss scored on a chip shot in the 11th minute for Colorado College, assisted by Lexi Long. It was the team’s first goal since the opening game of pool play against South Africa, when a goal by Milliet gave the team a 1-0 win.

Colorado College goalkeeper Rowan Frederiksen denied a two-on-one chance for Ireland with 10 minutes to go in the first half, and she also made a key save in the second minute of stoppage time in the second half.

“Games at this event aren’t easy,” Colorado College head coach Geoff Bennett said in a news release. “You can see everyone’s pride for their country by how hard they fight and battle. This was a tough Irish team that made life hard for us for 90 minutes. We scored a good goal, played well and persevered.”

Colorado College will play Poland at 8 p.m. Thursday, which is 11 a.m. Friday locally in South Korea. Poland defeated Colombia 5-1 on Tuesday.
