San Ignacio Fiesta hits 115 years and counting

The 2014 Fiesta Royalty will pass their crowns on to the new queen and attendants this weekend at the 115th annual San Ignacio Fiesta. First attendant Selena Cook and Queen Sage Medicine-Blanket waved to the crowd during this year’s Bayfield Fourth of July parade.

The 115th annual San Ignacio Fiesta, one of the older continuous celebrations in Southwest Colorado, will be held Saturday and Sunday.

The fiesta is organized by members and volunteers of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio.

Saturday is packed with events:

The parade is at 10 a.m. with lineup starting at 9 a.m. at St. Ignatius. All parade entries are welcome, and there is no fee to enter. This year’s theme is “Get in Gear Celebrating 115 Years.”

After the parade, family events will be held at Shoshone Park in downtown Ignacio, including kids games, volleyball, a bounce house, cake walk, snow cones and face painting.

Hamburgers, hot dogs and Frito pie will be for sale. Music will be provided by “Big O” DJ Service, with a dance contest and prizes.

At 11 a.m., the 25th annual horseshoe tournament starts at the park.

Southern Ute Community Action Programs will hold its duck race in the afternoon. For tickets, call 563-4517.

At 4 p.m., the Ignacio Chamber of Commerce will hold its car cruise at the old elementary school. A potluck will be held at 6 p.m. at Fox Fire Farms.

The San Ignacio Fiesta Dance will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight at Sky Ute Casino, with music by the Spanish Connection and Los Mitotitos. The cost is $15 per person, with a cash bar and concession.

The crowning of royalty will be at 10 p.m. Queen candidates are Reyna Cruz, Lainey Espinosa and Chrystianne Valdez.

On Sunday, Fiesta celebrations conclude with the Fiesta Mass at 10:30 a.m., then lunch at noon. There will be bingo for fun, more music from the Spanish Connection and the raffle drawing at 2 p.m.

For raffle tickets, call 563-4241.
