Monday was warm, but it wasn’t record warm

Monday’s high temperature of 58 degrees at Durango-La Plata County Airport was unusually warm, but probably not a record.

It was the warmest temperature recorded for the date at the airport in observations dating to 1996. The airport recorded 51 degrees in 2002 and 2014, according to the National Weather Service.

However, historical climate data for Durango shows a high of 61 degrees in 1951.

Tuesday is forecast to be cooler, with a high near 49 degrees and a slight chance of rain. Rain could turn to snow between midnight and 3 a.m. Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Lows will hover below freezing, from 24 to 31 degrees through Friday, the Weather Service forecast.
