Sex offender returns to Durango

Law enforcement is required to notify public

William Ed Vollert, 29, who was convicted of sexual assault, has been released on parole and is living in Durango at the Spanish Trails Motel, 3141 Main Ave.

Vollert was 20 when he had sex with a 14-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault on a child and was classified as a sexually violent predator based on a psychological evaluation.

Blond and blue-eyed, he is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. Vollert has extensive tattoos, including a tear drop on his right cheek.

“Use of this information to harass, threaten or intimidate the offender, the offender’s significant other or the community notification team will not be tolerated in a news release, “and could result in charges against those who attempt to do so. This information is released simply for public awareness,” said Dan Bender, spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.

As of Thursday, there were 179 sexual offenders residing in La Plata County.
