CPW: Free state park day Aug. 3; hunting licenses still available

Celebrate Colorado Day on Aug. 3 at local parks

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will celebrate Colorado Day with free park entrance to all 42 state parks Aug. 3.

“Colorado Day is an opportunity for everyone to get outside and experience the diverse natural beauty and recreational activities that our 42 state parks and 3,520 state wildlife areas have to offer,” said Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Information and Education Assistant Director Gary Thorson in a news release. “This day is also the agency’s opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to all of our residents and visitors who enjoy our state parks and for their continued support.”

Colorado Day commemorates Colorado’s acceptance into statehood Aug. 1, 1876.

While park entrance fees will be waived on Colorado Day, activities such as camping and fishing will still require a valid license and permit.

Hunters interested in leftover limited licenses and over-the-counter turkey licenses can make their purchase in person or over the phone beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 4. Online sales will begin at midnight Aug. 5.

Those interested will need valid photo identification, proof of residency and a social security number. Anyone buying a license also must have a Hunter Education card unless they wee born before 1949.

Leftover limited licenses are licenses that have gone through the draw process and still have quota remaining.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says thousands of over the counter with cap licenses for bear hunting also remain.
