A 53-year-old man from Berkeley, California, died at the beginning of a mountain-biking trip on the Colorado Trail on Sunday morning.
San Juan County Coroner Keri Metzler said Charles Teller, 53, was about 15 minutes into a planned ride of the entire trail with a group of about eight cyclists when he stopped to take a photograph.
“He got off to take a photograph, and when we was walking back to his bike, he collapsed to the ground,” Metzler said.
Flight For Life was called, but Metzler said Teller did not make it.
A cause of death will not be determined until an autopsy is completed later this week, Metzler said.
