A year after beating Englewood 4-0 in the season opener, the Durango High School boys soccer team took down the same foe 6-1.

Sailor Longfellow scored twice, while teammates Elijah Fenton, Luke and Mason Stetler and Max Wilson all scored one goal each.

“It was a good first game,” head coach Dalon Parker said. “The first half, we were trying to get our feet way. The boys were nervous, but we worked all that out and still played well.”

Parker said his team didn’t dominate possession quite the way he would like but was pleased nonetheless.

“We got to the second half and turned it up a notch,” he said. “We pressed hard. Over the 80 minutes, we wore them out. It was impressive to see, and everyone contributed.”

Durango will stay in Denver to face Denver North at 11 a.m. Saturday.
