Durango Fire responds to hay fire

Occurred west of Durango on U.S. Highway 160
Colorado State Patrol, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and Durango Fire Protection District respond to a call involving a semitrailer on Tuesday evening at mile marker 82 of U.S. Highway 160. Scorch marks could be seen on the hay being hauled by the rig.

Durango Fire Protection District responded to a report that a trailer loaded with hay was on fire at 7:20 p.m.

The call came in west of Durango in the 20000 block of U.S. Highway 160, just east of Wildcat Canyon Road (County Road 141). One lane of traffic was blocked by a fire engine. Deputies from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper from the Colorado State Patrol were also on scene.

It appeared that the hay on the semitrailer, which was eastbound, only had scorch marks, and there was an odor from brake-pad smoke at the scene.

Everyone but the Colorado State Patrol had left the scene by 7:50 p.m. Traffic flowed smoothly throughout.
