Filling your gas tank getting cheaper

Gas prices are set to fall until Christmas. The national trend is for gas prices to stay lower in the winter, according to AAA Colorado.

Just in time for the holiday weekend, gas prices are set to fall and keep falling.

The national average could fall below $2 a gallon by Christmas, according to a statement from AAA.

Durango’s prices will likely be headed in the same direction, but they are likely to remain above the average, said Wave Dreher, AAA spokeswoman for Colorado said.

The national average price of gas is about $2.44 per gallon, and in Durango the lowest price was $2.79 on Thursday, according to Gas Buddy.

Colorado prices have stayed above the national average because of problems with a refinery in the Midwest.

This issue should be resolved by mid-September, Dreher said.
