Chris Blevins takes 40th at junior Mountain Bike World Championships

17-year-old top junior finisher from the U.S.
Blevins

The pipeline of mountain biking talent coming out of Durango remains strong.

Chris Blevins, 17, finished 40th at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships on Thursday in Vallnord, Andorra, in the junior men’s cross country race.

The son of Field and Priscilla Blevins was the top American finisher in the event.

Simon Andreassen of Denmark won the title in 1 hour, 13 minutes, 27 seconds.

Blevins crossed the line 11:36 behind.

This finish follows a U.S. junior national championship in the cross country discipline earlier this summer.

In the women’s junior cross country race, Martina Berta of Italy won the world championship, besting her closest competition by 1:20.

She finished the course in 1:08:40.

The World Championships will continue with the U23 cross country race at 7 a.m. Friday.

Durango’s Howard Grotts and Sepp Kuss will compete for a world championship.

The U23 race won’t be broadcast on TV or online.

The elite cross country races are Saturday, but no Durangoans will compete in those events.
