Durango boys soccer pours in six goals against Pueblo Centennial

Durango boys soccer rebounds in big way

The morning after failing to find the back of the net on 15 shots, the Durango Demons made up for their misses.

The Durango High School boys soccer team secured a 6-1 victory against Pueblo Centennial (2-1) on Saturday at Dutch Clark Stadium in Pueblo.

Durango (3-2) bounced back from a 1-0 loss to Mullen in the same stadium the night before, when a controversial penalty kick goal went against the Demons.

Sam Dekay, a Durango junior, scored twice in the match. Elijah Fenton, Connor Henry, Sailor Longfellow and Luke Stetler had one goal each.

“It was good not to have a lull after (Friday night). The guys didn’t let down,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said. “It felt good to bounce back.”

The goal the Demons allowed came on another penalty kick, called by the same referee as Friday night.

Durango has allowed seven goals this year but none during the run of play. They have allowed five penalty kick goals.

The Demons will return home to host regional rival Montezuma-Cortez (1-3) at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverview Sports Complex.
