Tickets are on sale for the Twelfth Annual Durango Area Parade of Homes, which runs Sept. 25-27 this year.
Hosted by the Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado, the annual event showcases the newest homes, commercial development and remodels on the market.
The annual three-day event also provides extensive exposure for local builders who welcome the foot traffic.
A showcased builder in previous years, Trevor Krueger of Krueger Group has one home on display at Two Dogs Trail this year. The 3,731-square-foot home at 354 Two Dogs Trail is priced in the $2 million range and blends contemporary design with natural materials for “warmth and character,” Krueger said.
He finds that low-maintenance, remote access and energy efficiency are frequent requests for homes, depending on whether the buyer intends the home to be a primary or secondary residence.
“For secondary homes, low maintenance is huge, meaning they don’t want to spend the time and money maintaining wood and natural products on the exterior,” Krueger said.
“On this particular home, we do have wood, but it’s thoughtfully placed, and there’s a lot of stone. So down the road, it’s not an extraordinary thing trying to maintain.”
Most showcased houses are brand new and were completed this year, but the parade contains one remodel of a 1907 downtown home on East Fifth Avenue.
Antonio Mondragon of Mondragon Builders LLC wrapped up the project this month and said the 3,000-square-foot home no longer looks its age. Skylights welcome natural lighting into the four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home, which contains a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, in-floor heating and a media room.
