Changes all around us, as the golf season winds to conclusion

Course makeovers, fewer daylight hours, changing colors, dropping temperatures and the last attempts at getting those bugs worked out of your game dot the landscape, as fall has arrived in Southwest Colorado.

Contours are changing at the Hillcrest Golf Club as renovation continues. It may look a bit rough for now, but a fresher layout will greet golfers in the near future. Just a casual glance tells you the venue will be even more inviting for locals and visitors alike.

This being the final column for 2015, I need to preview the remaining events on the local calendar.

Hillcrest Golf Club

We begin with the Dave Peterson Memorial Tournament-3 Clubs and a Putter on Sept. 26 at Hillcrest. Many of you, myself included, were touched by Dave’s personality. How were you not uplifted by his unwavering ability to brighten your day? So, this event challenges your skill to use your favorite sticks to conquer each link. There is $500 in added prize purse and an entry fee of $40 per person. 100 percent handicaps will be used and scoring on individual play will be net only. Give Hillcrest a call at 247-1499 to see if spots are still available to play.

Then, Oct. 3, it’s the Todd Sieger Shootout-Coldwell Banker Heritage House Realtors Competition. Throughout the Hillcrest tournament season, selected events were earmarked as qualifiers for this event. The top-10 season money winners will battle it out in a nine-Hole shootout with starting times at 9:30 a.m.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club

Dalton Ranch will occupy the rest of the month of October with the Men’s Senior Championship on Oct. 3-4, the final Dalton Ranch couples event for the season Oct. 11th, and by The Mailman on Oct. 31.

HHH

I want to thank the staff at both Dalton Ranch and Hillcrest for their continued assistance in helping me assemble 25 consecutive weeks of previews and results. I also want to thank the tireless efforts of the Hillcrest Women’s Golf Association and the Dalton Ranch Women’s Golf Association for their timely results to keep you informed on how great these lady golfers are in the Four Corners.
