Skyhawks lose two in a row

FLC volleyball loses to Colorado Christian, No. 18 Colorado School of Mines

The Fort Lewis College volleyball team dropped two games in two days against the No. 18 Colorado School of Mines on Friday and Colorado Christian on Saturday.

The Cougars dropped the Skyhawks 14-25, 27-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-13. The Skyhawks, who for the first time this season played a five-set match, won the first set then lost the two following sets only to win the fourth. The Cougars were too much in the end, as they won the fifth and final set.

Fort Lewis (3-11, 0-5 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) has lost nine matches in a row.

Freshman Hannah Martinez led Fort Lewis with 11 kills, and junior Delaney Scanlon had 26 assists and seven digs. Freshman Maddie LeBlanc recorded eight kills and eight blocks (seven assisted).

Against the 18th-ranked Colorado Mines Orediggers, Fort Lewis lost in straight sets 25-19, 25-22 and 29-27 in front of 523 fans at Whalen Gymnasium.

Junior Ally Dell’Amico led Fort Lewis with 16 digs, and freshman Matisse Monty added 12 digs along with eight kills. Scanlan added 15 assists, and freshman Kendra Swackenberg added 11 assists and five digs.

Fort Lewis will travel Oct. 9 to New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico a day later.
