Drug probe takes place on County Road 311

Police search is part of long-term drug investigation

Several law enforcement agencies raided a County Road 311 home on Thursday morning as part of a long-term drug investigation.

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Ryan Engle said the operation began at daylight on a ranch off County Road 311. He said the search was solely for evidence-gathering purposes, and no arrests have been made.

The operation brings a number of law enforcement agencies together: La Plata County Sheriff’s Office; Durango Police Department; Southwest Drug Task Force; San Juan County (N.M.) Sheriff’s Office; Southern Ute Tribal Police; Drug Enforcement Agency; Federal Bureau of Investigation; and the Internal Revenue Service.

Engle said there are no other planned raids. Agencies respond to situations as needed. “It evolves as the investigation evolves,” he said.

As of 11 a.m., investigators were still on the scene, and a large truck transported several portable toilets, indicating they might be out there for a while.
