Bayfield volleyball beats Centauri 3-1

Volleyball earns road win

The young, up-and-coming Bayfield High School volleyball team beat another winning team Saturday afternoon.

After upsetting a 12-4 Pagosa Springs team earlier in the week, the Wolverines (7-8, 3-1 Intermountain League) went to La Jara and beat Centauri 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-13, 25-22). The win put Bayfield in second place in the conference behind No. 23 Alamosa (12-1, 4-0 IML).

Maddi Foutz led the way for Bayfield with 12 kills. Brooke Kudelski and Kylee McCoy added seven kills apiece in the Wolverines’ second consecutive win.

“We are beginning to set up our attackers nicely from first contact,” head coach Terene Foutz wrote in an email to The Durango Herald. “I’m pleased with our progression of our serve receive pass.”

Centauri fell to 10-6 overall and 1-3in the IML.

The Wolverines have a week off and will try to make it three in a row against Monte Vista at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Bayfield.
