Logan Griffith could enter Youthful Offender System

A Gem Village 19-year-old man suspected of robbing a medical marijuana dispensary may avoid prison by entering a state program to help youthful offenders.

Logan Griffith, who is suspected of robbing the Rocky Mountain High Dispensary, 48 East Animas Road (County Road 250), in complicity with his father, waived his preliminary hearing on Thursday. A preliminary hearing is held to determine if there is probable cause to continue to a trial.

Griffith is due back in the 6th Judicial District Court of Judge Jeffrey Wilson on April 16 to discuss a prosecution offer that could place him in the Youthful Offender System for two to six years.

Griffith is represented by John Moran from the state’s public defender’s office.

The Youthful Offender System is on the grounds of the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo. The system has capacity for 250 young people ages 14 to 19 who have committed crimes but are sentenced before their 21st birthday.

Griffith and his father, Joe Griffith, 44, are charged in the robbery. The father allegedly posed as a customer while the son, dressed in a hoodie and ski mask and armed with a handgun, tied up two employees and his father as part of the ruse. He then left with $3,000 and a significant amount of marijuana.

Logan Griffith has been formally charged with two counts of felony robbery, including one for using a firearm and another for taking a controlled substance.
