The longstanding 7-2-11 on Main Avenue closed its doors this month.

The store has been stripped of its gas pumps and cleaned out over the last two weeks, said Rubel Montoya, an employee of a nearby store.

“It’s sad because it was a landmark for everybody around here,” said Montoya, who worked at the store in the 1970s.

While he couldn’t say why the business was closed he had heard the store had problems making a profit.

A representative 7-2-11 Food Stores Inc. declined to answer any questions, including whether the store’s closure is permanent.

The Farmington-based chain was started in 1956 by the Frazer family.

If the store’s closure is permanent, the city Clerk’s Office, which maintains business licenses, has not been notified.

“Everything is current and active,” said Ben Florine, licensing and records technician.

But businesses do not always notify the city about new ownership or closure, he said.
