Hermosa woman dies by suicide

A Hermosa woman died by suicide Wednesday, said La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith.

Charlotte Sieber, 54, died in her home on Orchard Lane, Smith said.

She is survived by her husband, Brad Sieber, a daughter, Scarlett, and son, Sven.

“My wife’s life was taken due to the fact that pharmaceutical drugs are handed out like candy from professional physicians that we trust,” Brad Sieber told The Durango Herald on Saturday.

He said his wife’s goal was to open a treatment facility for people struggling with pharmaceuticals.

Law enforcement including the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, the Durango Police Department and the Durango Fire Protection District all responded Wednesday night to her home because it was an unattended death, Smith said.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Columba Catholic Church, 1810 East Second Ave., Durango.
