Thanksgiving morning damp

Chances of snow slight through the weekend

Durangoans woke up to a damp and overcast Thankgiving morning, and the weather forecast for the holiday weekend doesn’t look much brighter.

The city received 0.01 of an inch of rain Wednesday night and, while the temperatures will stay cold, the chance for more rain and snow over the weekend are only slight, said Mike Meyers, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

“Basically, that storm system to the west, it’s lingering. It’s really not impacting Durango,” he said.

The best chance for snow in Durango is Friday night into early Saturday when the liklihood of precipitation is about 40 percent.

However, it is expected to stay in the upper 30s to the lower 40s through the weekend and into the middle of next week.

The overcast skies also are expected to remain through the weekend.

Purgatory Resort was not reporting any new snow. But Wolf Creek did receive 3 inches in the last 24 hours, Meyers said.
