Hats off to Chimney Rock plan

Hats off to the USDA and U.S. Forest Service for laying out a long-term vision for the future of the Chimney Rock National Monument. In just three years since its designation, the department and agency worked cooperatively with nonprofit organizations, other agencies and tribal partners to develop a sound management plan for this unique cultural resource. The plan puts cultural resources front and center, as it should, but also deals with the important issues of development, grazing and recreation in sensible and realistic ways.

USDA Undersecretary Bonnie and Chief Tidwell showed the leadership needed for this plan and should share in a job well done by the regional forester, forest supervisor, district ranger and everyone involved. Thanks to President Obama for continuing to protect sacred lands to preserve our diverse American heritage.
