Coding challenge in second year

Go Code Colorado will host a kickoff event in Durango on Thursday ahead of the annual apps and coding challenge in April.

The mix-and-mingle event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Carver Brewing Co.

Go Code Colorado seeks to make government data more accessible and useful for businesses. Computer coders form teams to tackle a series of challenges.

Last year, a team from Durango finished in second place. The team included Aaron Renner, Natalie Carpenter, Jason Sutter, Tristan Rubadeau, Cody Schaff and Shawn Meek. The team took home a $15,000 contract.

This year’s challenge will be held April 10-12 at locations around the state, including Durango. The final competition will take place in May in Denver.

The event is operated by the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office in partnership with corporate sponsors, including Google and Mercury, the Durango-based subsidiary of Vantiv. For more information, visit gocode.colorado.gov online.
