Closures expected on Molas, Coal Bank

CDOT performing avalanche control Wednesday

While there hasn’t been much snow in Durango, the same cannot be said for the mountains. The snow up high has led to the need for avalanche control Wednesday on Molas and Coal Bank passes.

The Colorado Department of Transportation will be working between mile markers 56 to 64 on U.S. Highway 550, which is essentially the top of Coal Bank to the top of Molas.

CDOT said Tuesday night in a news release that travelers should expect intermittent closures throughout the day Wednesday, which could last 30 minutes or more.
