Ignacio girls basketball lights up Center for win

The Ignacio High School girls basketball team ran away with a victory at Center High School on Friday night, 47-17.

“The girls played fantastic in the second half,” Ignacio head coach Shane Seibel said. “(Center) hung in there the first half, but we put them away.”

At the end of the first half, the score was 18-12 Ignacio. In the second half, Ignacio put on a rout by outscoring Center 29-5. Sophomore Hilda Garcia broke out of her shooting slump by putting in 17 points by hitting 4-of-5 3-point shots. Garcia also added four blocks.

IHS junior Alejandra Lujan grabbed six rebounds, as senior Ellie Seibel added five rebounds. Senior Chrystianne Valdez had five steals.

“Defensively, we played a great game,” Coach Seibel said. “In that second half, we came after them with full court press. Our defense then just shut them down.”

Ignacio will be on the floor again next Thursday when the Bobcats travel to Dolores.
