DGO column would mortify Ballantines

While enjoying all the great photography and stories about Snowdown in the Herald, I came upon a new publication from Ballantine Communications titled DGO. It too, had a great cover photo of a Follies act and several witty stories about Snowdown.

But while reading through the publication I came upon a column by Dan Savage. The topics he covered were, to me, something which would not normally be printed in free magazine that could be picked up by anyone age 6 and older from local newsstands.

I am not naive, and I can enjoy some off-color jokes or humor, but the two “letters” which Dan replied to were not topics I expected to find in a small town local arts and entertainment newspaper.

Morley and Arthur Ballantine were certainly open-minded news people, but if they’re not rolling in their graves right now they are, I’m sure, looking over the BCI editorial board meetings with arched eyebrows. I hope the staff at DGO will take in to consideration what they write about, and who might pick up this publication. If you want to print those types of articles that is fine, but put DGO in a plastic bag and sell it in the X-rated section at Magpie’s.
