Bayfield wrestling wins the ones that count against Alamosa

BHS wrestling sharp ahead of regionals

The Bayfield wrestling team gave up 30 points to Alamosa in forfeits but proved its strength in matches wrestled.

The Wolverines fell 45-30 in the end but outscored the Mean Moose 30-15 in the matches that took place.

“Alamosa is ranked No. 10 in the state, and we wrestled really well against them,” BHS head coach Neil Barnes said.

The Wolverines earned pin victories in four weight classes with Macoy Michaeli (160), Cash Snooks (170), Wyatt Freier (195) and Sam Westbrook (285) all finishing their opponents. Ryan Nava also secured a win at 145 pounds, as did Cody Speece at 120 pounds.

“We are right where we want to be before regionals,” Barnes said.

Bayfield will compete at the regional tournament at 4 p.m. Friday at Montrose High School. Regional results will determine state qualifiers.
