The Fort Lewis College softball team got in the win column for the first time this season and made a statement to a conference foe in the process.
The Skyhawks (1-2) banged out 12 hits and scored seven runs in the final three innings to beat Colorado State University-Pueblo 10-4 on Saturday.
Lauren Caldwell led Fort Lewis going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in. Her fifth-inning double with the bases loaded cleared the bases and broke a 3-3 tie.
Angelique Elemen was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Tristen Gilbert drove in two, as well.
Fort Lewis fell behind in the first inning but scored twice in the second on doubles by Nikki Klepfer and Gianna Melaragno.
After Caldwell’s three-run double in the fifth gave the Skyhawks a lead, a four-run sixth put the game out of reach.
Victoria Johnson got the win for Fort Lewis as she tossed 4 1/3 innings, struck out six and gave up only one run.
In the second game of the day, Fort Lewis couldn’t handle No. 13 Humboldt. as the Skyhawks were shut out 8-0 in five innings.
FLC will continue tournament play in St. George, Utah, on Sunday morning.
