The Bayfield High School boys basketball team went on the road to Alamosa to play the Mean Moose and returned with a loss in the column, losing 65-48.
Bayfield (7-9, 1-4 3A Intermountain League) couldn’t hang with the best team in the league in Alamosa (13-4, 6-0), as the Mean Moose won their seventh game in a row.
Taed Heydinger led the Wolverines with 21 points and Ryan Phelps added 15, but it wasn’t enough.
“They’re just a tough team,” Bayfield head coach Jeff Lehnus said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “You have to play a near perfect game to beat (Alamosa), but we’re not there yet. They’re ranked high for a reason, they have a strong team and strong players.”
Up next for Bayfield, the Wolverines will be on the road against Monte Vista at 7 p.m. Friday at Monte Vista High School.
Earlier in the day, the Bayfield girls team fell to Alamosa 67-36.
