Steamworks Brewing Co. sends craft beer to Peyton Manning

Steamworks Owner Kris Oyler holds up two six-packs of Colorado Kolsch. Colorado brewers sent Peyton Manning a six-pack of Colorado beers, including a Kolsch.

The Denver Bronco’s Peyton Manning may be getting a taste of Durango as he soaks in his Super Bowl victory.

After the Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, Manning told CBS he was ready to celebrate.“I’m going to drink a lot of Budweiser tonight. I promise you that.”

While the majority of Coloradoans reveled in blind orgasmic jubilation, craft brewers in the state were taken aback.

Budweiser?

“Wouldn’t he rather have a beer more fitting of his superstardom,” the CraftBeer.com staff posted on its site. “Maybe a beer that more closely represents the Bronco’s status as an underdog? That’s what we believe that small and independent craft brewers represent.”

In response, the Brewer’s Association sent Manning a collection of craft beers, six of which were from Colorado.

Included in that package was Steamworks Brewing Co.’s Colorado Kolsch ale.

Steamworks owner Kris Oyler said Colorado Kolsch’s lighter style might please the 39-year-old quarterback.

“But I would be happy if he just drank it,” Oyler said. “My wife said it’s the closest I’ll get to having a beer with Peyton Manning.”
