Durango girls swim strong at state

Relay team takes eighth in final

The Durango High School girls swim team sent its 200 yard freestyle and medley relay teams to the Class 4A Colorado High School Activities Association girls swim and dive state meet Saturday.

The 200 freestyle team of Violet Witchel, Mira Joyner, Ellie Earl and Anne Mummery finished in eighth place with a time of 1 minute, 43.64 seconds, which gave the team 22 points.

Emily Dolloff-Holt, Sydney Dolloff-Hold, Samantha White and Veronica Morin of Manitou Springs won the event with a time of 1:36.98. Cheyenne Mountain and Valor Christian rounded out the top three teams.

Durango’s 200 medley team, comprised of the same swimmers, finished 12th overall in the consolation heat with a time of 1:56.25. Valor Christian won the event with a time of 1:45.31 and Manitou Springs took second with 1:45.84. Evergreen took third place.

In the only individual event for the Demons, Mummery also competed in the 100 freestyle and finished 12th with a time of 55.55 seconds. Brooke Stenstrom of Valor Christian won the event with a time of 50.63, Kennidy Quist of Aspen took second with 50.99 and Katelyn Kenchel of Evergreen took third with 51.17.
