Diane West, one block down

Jewelry & Art Gallery moves in downtown Durango

If you weren’t paying close attention, you may not have even noticed that Diane West moved her Jewelry & Art Gallery in downtown Durango.

The move – from 934 Main Ave. to 820 – was just over one block, but it made perfect sense for West.

“Foot traffic on this block is so much better. It does make a difference. And I’m two doors down from the visitors’ center. It’s just a much more central location,” she said.

In addition to location, the new space has a 1,500-square-foot basement, whereas the old space had no storage at all. And while the upstairs retail space is only about 200 square feet bigger, it’s wider, making the space more conducive for West’s needs. To top it all off, the rent is a bit cheaper.

“Everything a little bit better,” she said. “It’s just a win-win-win...win. Besides the actually remodel and move part ...”

West will host a grand re-opening party from 4 to 8 p.m. today, where she will introduce two new gallery artists, local jeweler Gretchen Magwitz and Santa Fe artist Sheryl Zacharia.
